Faux Pas? Who's Reality?

Stella McCartney bag FAUX Suede $1,095

Zara bag REAL leather less than $200

I love Stella. I wish more designers had such non-negotiable convictions in fashion, but with all sincerity, its hard for me to associate a higher value with an item that is synthetic over a natural leather. Stella is internationally recognized for cutting edge design and a philosophy of awareness to the environment that has transcended how consumers view high fashion. However, in hard shopping times such as these its imperative to reassure consumers. $1,095 for a faux suede bag is not reassuring.

  1. such a good point Becca! Its very hard for someone to pay that kind of money for a bag that is not leather. In this case you are, in fact, paying for a name, and not quality materials. Now i do not own any Stella McCartney ANYTHING so I am NOT an authority. But what makes her faux bag better than one you can get at lets say topshop or asos? Thoughts???

  2. Stella is an amazing designer with an ethical approach to design. I know many eco friendly designers and none have achieved her magnitude of style and craftmanship. It is a new form of luxury that we can all appreciate. What makes Stella's bag more luxurious than let's say a Top Shop or Asos is the craft. Most often her collection is made in Italy by tailors who have been sewing for years. Its created to last longer vs the short shelf like of Topshop or Asos.
Also if we want high fashion to prevail, we must support it. Topshop and Asos knock off designers like Stella in order to produce goods. If we want to continue having innovative designs we must support it. I do encourage evaluating our purchases however. xo
